I watched the video A Vision of Students Today

Hi All,
I watched the short video called A Vision of Students Today made at Kansas State College by Michael Welsch. I liked the creative nature of the video - the panning shots of graphiti written on the walls and student chairs was both original and interesting. I liked how Michael got his message across with the students holding up written messages that put the message all together. During the video it hit me hard how different it is for students today in school, then it was for me. I realized that the students probably have those cards in their computer that give them internet access anywhere. One girl said she spent most of her time on facebook during class. I realized how shoddy my education would have been if I had access to these distracting things during class. I am sure I would be cruising my facebook and buying things on ebay during a boring lecture. I am glad that I did not have access to that. I am experiencing my daughter going thru her educational years and I wonder how she will turn out. She is in 6th grade and had to do a power point on Cambodia. This would be the equivalent to a written report that I would have done when I was young. To do my report I would have gone to the library and checked out books on Cambodia. I would have read the information and pulled out things relevant to my report. My daughter on the other hand, looks things up on Google and then copies and pastes things into her report. Then I rag on her about plagerism and she changes them into her own words. I do not really think she is learning or retaining the information as well as she would if she read books about the subject. I am slowly getting used to all of this technology. There are so any great things about it also. I just had a blast making several movies on animoto and sending them to friends. I am embracing it however I spend WAY TO MUCH time on the computer. So much that I have pain in both wrists and a painful neck. I am quite certain it is from my unergonomic postures while surfing the web and hammering on my keyboard. Oh what to do...what to do.......
